This is a large fossil eurypterid of the species Eurypterus remipes from the Silurian from the U.S. state of New York. Eurypterids are also often referred to as sea scorpions. This Eurypterus remipes is characterized by a plastic and very detailed preservation. In addition, this fossil offers a respectable size. Measured along the body axis, this Eurypterus remipes fossil is about 150 mm long. The complete specimen would be eastly something about 210 mm long if the telson (Tail spine) had been preserved. |
