Products description
On this piece from the Fort Union Formation features two fossil leaf’s of the species Davidia antiqua and Cercidiphyllum arcticum.
The genus Davidia is in fact a living fossil that is today represented by dove tree (Davidia involucrata Baillon,1871).
Today living representatives of the genus Cercidiphyllum are generally known as the cake tree or katsura tree. These recent Cercidiphyllum species are native to Japan and China. These are Cercidiphyllum japonicum Siebold & Zuccarini, 1846 and Cercidiphyllum magnificum Nakai ,1920. Both species enjoy a certain popularity as ornamental plants in garden and public parks.
This fossil Davidia antiqua leaf measures about 60 x 45 mm and the Cercidiphyllum arcticum leaf is about 27 x 35 mm.
