Products description
Here is a rare fossil leaf of the species Lyonothamnus parvifolius from the Miocene of Nevada. This leaf fossil offers a very detailed preservation and a nice contrast as well.
The genus Lyonothamnus is also known as Catalina ironwood. Lyonothamnus is a lesser known living fossil. Today only the endemic species Lyonothamnus floribundus exists. That is native to the Channel Islands near the Californian coast.
The Fossil leaf measures about 13 mm.
This rare plant fossil comes from an old collection, apparently the Miocene of Nevada was rarely collected.
