This Limulus fossil from the Solnhofen limestone is a large and inexpensive specimen of a horseshoe crab. Unfortunately, the fossil was incompletely recovered from the quarry. Therefore the middle part of this fossil horseshoe crab is restored in shape. This is a classical restoration, after all, this part of the fossil was primarily preserved and is gone now. So it is not a completion. However this restoration can also be clearly identified immediately. The fossil Limulus is about 175 mm long. What is actually a quite remarkable size in size. The fossil substance itself shows an excellent and detailed preservation. It is a shame that this Mesolimulus walchi was incompletely recovered. After all this Solnhofen Limulus is far from perfect, but it is a large, nice and honest fossil.
