Here is a brilliant specimen of Odontopleura ovata from Lodenice with both librigena. This trilobite shows a fabulous preservation and a excellent contrast as well, even both genal spines are good visible. This piece comes together with the negative side on that is also a other complete negative in a similar good preservation. A Odontopleura of this Quality is very rare, the most specimens of this species do not have the librigena and this trilobite takes likely damage when split. The Matrix measures about 50 x 36 mm.
This trilobite species is sometimes labelled as “Odontopleura prevostia”. It seems that Barrande does not know the publication of Emmrich from the year 1839. Or he decided to ignore that paper for his scientific work because the differences of the preservation, fazias and origin of Emmrich’s material. However is the older Taxon Odontopleura ovata Emmrich, 1839 the valid one and the younger Acidaspis prevosti BARRANDE, 1846 is an invalid synonym.
