|Here is a large example of a fossil glass sponge from Bundenbach. The fossil belongs to the species Retifungus rudens. It is a stem fragment that shows nicely the coiled spiral structure.|
On Retifungus rudens is known that it got been sometimes been grown over by other animals like crinoids that use this massive sponge as a hard ground. This is on this specimen not the case, so it is a inexpensive example of a rarely offered "Bundenbach - Fossil".
The sponge fossil it self is about 141 mm long.
