Here is a beautiful fossil coral colony of the species Hexagonaria hexagona from the Middle Devonian of Bou Tchrafine in Morocco.
This coral belongs to the rugosa, an extinct group of reef-building cnidarians that mostly lived solitary or in colonies. Hexagonaria hexagona is characterized by its hexagonal cross-section and star-shaped calyx opening.
