Nattheim Corals and other fossils from Mergelstetten Foramtion
The classical site of Nattheim (Germany) are famous for there atractive Fossils. The Fossils of Nattheim are mostly Silicificatied so that spectacular detailed acid preparations can be made. The fossils belong in the upper Jurassic Mergelstetten formation that is mostly Kimmeridgian. Some parts of the Mergelstetten formation may belong also in the lower Tithonian. The most common fossils of Nattheim are fossil corals but also echinoderms occur.
Here is a beautifully branched fossil coral stock of the species Protoseris from Nattheim. Protoseris is apparently much less common than the genus Thecosmilia in the Mergelstetten Formation.
