Nice fossil specimen of a rare tennis ball medusa from the lithographic limestone of Solnhofen. The Jellyfish does have a diameter of about 54 mm.
In the past where this fossils accounted to the genus Leptobrachites what seems to be not correct. But the systematic of the Jurassic Scyphozoa from Solnhofen is still poorly researched and need badly some revision, as long there is not further work on this topic we are in need to use the also invalid taxon Medusites for this kind of fossils. A very rare specimen of a tennis ball medusa from the lithographic limestone of Solnhofen. Jellyfishes are at 99% water, they are only in few and special conditions fossilized preserved.
