Here is a unusually detailed preserved specimen of a very rare opossum shrimp* of the species Elder ungulatus. Actually it is a exuvia of this very rare species that is still completely articulated. The preservation of this fossil is much better than on the most other specimens that are known from the lithographic limestone. Elder ungulatus is acounted to the krill like crustacean group of the Mysidoidea. It belongs to the Jurassic Zooplankton. The thin on light weight optimized exoskeleton of this group is in the most cases not capable of fossil preservation. The shrimp it self is without the antennas about 48 mm long. | |||
