Here is a large example of a fossil glass sponge from Bundenbach. The fossil belongs to the species Retifungus rudens. It is a stem fragment that shows nicely the coiled spiral structure. On Retifungus rudens is known that it got been sometimes been grown over by other animals like crinoids that use this massive sponge as a hard ground. This is on this specimen not the case, so it is a inexpensive example of a rarely offered "Bundenbach - Fossil". The sponge fossil it self is about 141 mm long. | |||
