Products description

Here is a very rare "Eifel Mts. Trilobite Double" with Cyphaspis balanops.
The trilobite species Cyphaspis balanops is the much more rare Cyphaspis species at the classical site of the "Pelm-Salmer Weg" near Gees. The may most prominent difference between Cyphaspis balanops and  C. ceratophthalmus is the absence of the four clearly enlarged tubercula on the glabella. Both trilobites on this piece offer a quite good preservation. The right  Cyphaspis specimen shows a interesting pathological libergena on the left side. The genal spine is primerly missing on the left body side. The edge of the free cheek is roundly regenderated what sugests that since the injury the trilobite had servile moulting.
The Holotype shown in ERBEN 1953 of Cyphaspis balanops is today considerably lost.
