This large middle Cambrian Trilobite of the species Cambropallas telesto shows an interesting injury. This injury seems to be a bite mark of a large Cambrian predator like Anomalocaris. The force seems to crunch or rip the carapace from the right body side to the middle. A part of the duplication of cephalon is dislocated to the middle. Also some pleural segments a distortion in this direction. The end of the right genal spine and the left tips of the first two pleural segments are still good articulated. Maybe some soft tissue hold these parts before the embedding together. Or maybe the Trilobite was turned upside down so that he was gutted from the ventral body side. Similar injurys are quite common on Cambropallas telesto from Tahhoucht. A pathological Trilobite is not necessary the ideal of beauty. This might explain why this trilobite shows so very common restorations or reconstructions. | |||
