This Eifel Trilobite from the Ahrdorf formation near Gees belongs to the relative rare species Cyphaspis balanops . The species Cyphaspis balanops can be relative easy distinguished from the more common species Cyphaspis ceratophthalmus by its glabella. The Eifel Trilobite Cyphaspis ceratophthalmus shows on the gabella four large nodes. These can be easily been recognized between the finer granulation. Cyphaspis balanops does not show this large tubercles and the granulation of the granulation of the Glabella is slightly finer. The glabella has a tendency to appear more voluminous than on Cyphaspis ceratophthalmus. This specimen is a good and detailed example of this Eifel Trilobite. | |||
