Products description

This is a very exotic Phacopid - Trilobite from the Devonian of  Morocco.
This trilobite species may best fit  into the genus Phacops. This trilobite seems so far not scientific published. But it is known under the nickname "Smiley-Phacops" because its large, spoiler like and very concave pre gebellar field..

Compared to the type species Phacops latifrons (BRONN, 1825) or the Moroccan species Phacops araw Chatterton et al 2009 are anyway servile similar features.
The rim of the cephalon does not show a rendel bar. The very strong tuberculation of the gelabllar is developed in rounded nodes. Or as refereed by McKellar and Chatterton as “large pustular (broad and domed)”.  The genal fields are mostly not sculptured but interspersed with clear pores.  The pleural segments do not show a tuberculation but some pores as well.

The locality of the "Smiley-Phacops" couch is restricted to small hill, north west  in the front of the  Jbel Issoumour. It is very likely that this relative small locality is by now mostly depleted .
