Products description

This Ediacara biota piece shows a good example of  Dickinsonia costata together with the grazing traces of  Kimberella,  Kimberichnus teruzzii.

The systematic status of the genus Dickinsonia is still controversial disputed.
Even a association with the Fungi or a completely unknown kingdom where discussed in the past.
Mostly accepted is status of  Dickinsonia as Animals (Metazoa).
This shows again how different the Ediacara Fossils are from “modern” life on earth.

Kimberichnus teruzzii is interpreted as grazing traces of  Kimberella. Its indicate the possible existence of a Radula or Radula like tounge as it is present on most molluscs.
Because this traces and other indication is Kimberella today interpreted as  mollusc or mollusc like life from.

The partial Dickinsonia shows a good and detailed preservation and is about 12 mm wide.
The ichnofossils of the species Kimberichnus teruzzii was unfortunately cut when the matrix was formatted. But what is present shows a good detail level.

Together is this piece a interesting and inexpensive example of the Ediacara biota.
