Here is a relative large and fine preserved specimen of Microcyphus rousseaui with color pattern preservation from Pliocene of Egypt. This very aesthetic fossil shows a very rare preservation of the organic pigment Fringelite (or may also hypericin as well) in the original colour pattern. The preservation of fringelites is on echinoid extremely rarely seen. On Crinoids fossils it is Fringelite a little more often preserved but it occurs anyway only under special embedding condition. | |||
