Products description

This is a very large "Czech Tilobite" of the species Hydrocephalus minor from Jince.
This trilobite shows a potential  Anomalocaris bite mark. On the right body side are 6 pleural segments together with the rachis rings ripped off. Because the rest of the specimen is more or less perfect articulated is this injury not well explainable by an moulting accident. If this extend damage would have occurred due or after the moulting it would be very unlikely that the rest of the trilobite would be still in one piece.    So a predation bite mark is one of the more likely explanations. With about 120 mm is this not a small trilobite, so the question is what or “who” would be large enough to attack a trilobite that large in the Cambrian oceans.  One usual suspect is here a predator like  Anomalocaris.  All together is this a interesting fossil that also shows a good and detailed preservation.

Jince - Vystrkov , Barrandian, Czech Republic
