This piece from the Ediacarian shows servile specimens of the species Paleophragmodictya reticulate. The larges specimen on this plate measures about 5 mm in diameter. Droser 2007 discuss clusters like this piece as potential colonies. Paleophragmodictya is interpretated by Gehling, 1996 as primitive member of the Porifera. As a potential ancestor of Sponges. Sepkoski et al., 2002 suggesting this organism as a free swimming cnidarian. Like a jellyfish or medusa. But in there is very few variation recorded in the preservation of Paleophragmodictya what makes after Ivantstov & Fedonkin, 2002 a sessile or benthic life habit more likely. They suggest Paleophragmodictya as a potential member of the Trilobozoa, like Tribrachidium. | |||
