Products description

This is a rare and spiny Morocco Trilobite of the species Otarionella ikomalii  from the middle Devonian of Morocco.

The species Otarionella ikomalii  was initially descried Lerosey-Aubril, Chatterton und Feist, 2008 on a articulated specimen from the Jebel Zireg site. The Site of Zired or Zerg is more known for the Trilobite genus Ceratages.  This trilobite origins from a newer site at the Jbel Issoumour, that was about 1-2 year ago discovered.  Apparently has this newer site also not provided that many finds of  Otarionella ikomalii.

This specimen is highlighted by its nice preservation along with its prone posing. The Trilobite comes also on a displaybile piece of matrix that is naturally shaped.

The Preperation of Otarionella ikomalii from the Issoumour site is challenging. The limestone sticks stongly on the surface of the Trilobite carapace. The Pictures of the preparation provide a glimpse how unpleased this matrix is.  Only careful and slow air braising lead to good results like on this specimen.  Because its small size is the excavation of the many spines difficult and time consuming.

But the result speeks for it self. This it a wonderful and rare showcase specimen of Otarionella ikomali that is 100% “Made in Germany” by Paul Freitag.
