Here is a rare example of a fossil dragonfly from Solnhofen that like belongs to the genus Mesuropetala. Although this fossil dragonfly wing is incompletely preserved, it has a particularly beautiful preservation. The wing vein structures is colored by iron minerals. This form of preservation is not only decorative and desirable, but also it is unfortunately rare on fossil dragonflies and other fossil insects from the lithographic limestone of Solnhofen and Eichtsätt. Die fossil dragonfly wing itself is about 43 mm long. |
