[Populus arctica HEER, 1866] Here is a fossil leaf of the species Cercidiphyllum arcticum from the Fort Union Formation Today living representatives of the genus Cercidiphyllum are generally known as the cake tree or katsura tree. These recent Cercidiphyllum species are native to Japan and China. These are Cercidiphyllum japonicum Siebold & Zuccarini, 1846 and Cercidiphyllum magnificum Nakai ,1920.
