Here is a good and quite large Ceratages from the Eifilium of Morocco. This trilobite belongs to the species Ceratarges ziregensis, its from the type locality Zireg in the southern Maider Basin. This specimen offers a very good articulation. Both librigenas are tightly closed. What is more than often not the case with the on trilobites of the genus Ceratages. The inner, left pygidial spine is on a wider adhesive line. As the can be seen in particular well on the UV image. This could be an indication of a re-articulation or assemblage. In any case, the affected itself spine is authentic. And it seems that this it also came from this very trilobite specimen. If you also compare the slight color variations of the spine and the surrounding rock, it seems absolutely plausible that this spine also belongs exactly at this place. Just why the glue is wider than expected and whether the sting also belongs here or maybe it was implemented (re-articulated). This cannot be done determined with non-destructively methods. Apart from that pygidial spine, the trilobite does not show any restorations or colorations. What is very remarkable for a Ceratages from the late 90's. Overall, this is a really good and inexpensive Ceratarges ziregensis from an old collection in a classic preparation. The Ceratages measures approximately 52mm as it is on Matrix. When stretched out, this should be roughly 70 mm.. | |||
