This stromatolite from Thüsten also shows both the surface structures and the fine-layerd structure at the polished cut section. A special feature of this stromatolite is a fossil piece of driftwood embedded in the laminate structure at the base. The fossil driftwood itself is more or less an oncolith. The Jurassic stromatolites from Thüster Berg are probably among the classics of paleontology. Due to the special sequence of facies in the Münder marl, the cauliflower-like surface is preserved in these stromatolites. | |||
