Products description

Here is a particularly well-preserved fossil pea crab of the species Pinnixa galliheri from the Miocene of California. Today living representatives of the genus Pinnixa live, among other hosts, inside mussels. However, without damaging their host in a endosymbiotic relationship. This is why Pinnixa is also sometimes called clam guardian.
This plate shows a rather large and complete Pinnixa galliheri as well as two other specimens that are not completely preserved. The larger crustacean fossil measures about 32 mm.
