This trilobite is a rare Spathacalymene nasuta from the Silurian period of Indiana. The genus Spathacalymene is characterized by a concise, shovel-like preglabellar field. In this specimen we have unusual glue line at the pygidium. It is particularly evident under UV light. The spots on the head shield are not unusual, here the shell was stabilized in the course of the preparation. However, on the tail shield the adhesives are are unusual. It may be that only the result of the shell been transferred from the counterpart. But to be safe we assume here that pygidium was rearticulated. Nevertheless, this is a decorative and spectacular showpiece. | |||
