Here is a beautiful and rare scorpion in the Burmese amber. It belongs almost certainly the species Palaeoburmesebuthus grimaldii. This new genus and species was established in 2002 by W.R. Lourenço on the basis of an isolated telson with three tail segments (Metastomal segments). In this complete specimen, the tail is somewhat in the haze, but the probations coincide with that of the holotype. It is actually a complete specimen of a scorpion in amber. The fossil is embedded in the middle of the amber and does not run out of it at any point. The embedding is like from the picture book and the scorpion offers an excellent detail. The scorpion itself is about 5 mm wide. A nice fossilized scorpion in Amber is always a rarity. And keep in mind that the Burmese amber originates from the cretaceous period.
