This is a showpiece with several specimens of the rare land plants from the Devonian of the species Gosslingia breconensis. The plate shows several plant shoots which also show the typical branches of the genus Gosslingia. Gosslingia is an extinct genus of land plants, mainly known from the Devonian period, belonging to the Zosterophyllopsida. The genus was named after the British amateur geologist Frank Newbery Gossling. Gosslingia is placed in the family of club moss plants. Originally, this primitive plant was described as described by Heard, in 1925 as Psilophyton sp, but then renamed Gosslingia in his 1927 publication. | |||
