This is a large and detailed Solnhofen starfish of the species Riedaster reicheli from Ried. The fossil starfish presents itself on an attractive plate. One arm crossed, as is not uncommon with starfish. Extended, this Riedaster would have a wingspan of about 80 mm. As the fossil starfish is on the plate, it measures about 79 x 56 mm. Fossil starfish are a great rarity in the plate limestone. A few years ago, a few more specimens were recovered from the classic site of Ried. However, no further finds are to be expected. This Riedaster reicheli is a large and detailed showpiece. |
