This is a beautiful slab with several detailed Ediacaran fossils of the species Nemiana simplex from Ukraine. The largest individual on this piece measures about 29 mm in diameter. Nemiana simplex is a common fossil in the Neoproterozoic sediments of Ukraine. The exact assignment is disputed. But it is considered certain that Nemiana is a body fossil. It is thought that Nemiana simplex was a sessile organism that lived in marine environments and fed by ingesting dissolved foods. These fossils are often found in groups or colonies, suggesting a communal way of life. | |||
