| Here is a rare fossil leaf of the species Lyonothamnus parvifolius from the Miocene of Nevada. The genus Lyonothamnus is also known as Catalina ironwood. Lyonothamnus is a lesser known living fossil. Today only the endemic species Lyonothamnus floribundus exists. That is native to the Channel Islands near the Californian coast. The Fossil leaf measures about 30 mm. This is a rare specimen on a small and thin plate. | |||
