Products description

Thaleops surpestes is a rare trilobite from the family Illaenidae and the only known representative of this genus from the British Isles. The species was originally described by Reed in 1944 as Illaenus surpestes. Later, in 1988, the species was assigned to the genus Nanillaenus (Jaanusson, 1954) by Morris.

In 2004, Lisa Amati and Stephen R. Westrop revised the genus Nanillaenus and determined it to be synonymous with Thaleops. This represents a rare and systematically interesting trilobite, preserved in beautiful and three-dimensional detail.

TheTrilobite itself mesures about 19 mm.
