This is a fossil of a winged conifer seed which likely belongs to the species Pinus ponderosa. The fossil Pine seed itself is about 11 mm long. This type of conifer is today very common it is also known as the Ponderosa pine or the golden pine. This rare plant fossil comes from an old collection, apparently the Miocene of Nevada was rarely collected. | |||
