This is a rare trilobite of the species Calymene gamachei from the Lower Silurian, found on Anticosti Island in northeastern Québec, Canada. Due to the nature of the find, the specimen is virtually free of matrix. Notably, the hypostome (mouthplate beneath the cephalon) is exposed, which is relevant for species identification. Also worth mentioning are the relatively large pore canals in the axial region. This Calymene gamachei measures approximately 28 mm in length. | |||
