The clay pit of Buttenheim delivers some of the best preserved Fossils of the German Pliensbachian*. The quarry exposes also fossilferus layery of the Toarcian* stage. Some layers provide Ammonites in a mother of pearl preservation.

This is good evidence of a relatively rare Amaltheus margaritatus from Buttenheim. The fossil comes with both positive and negative side.
