Products description

Here is an interesting and large trilobite of the genus Conocoryphe as an inexpensive specimen.
This specimen shows the most similarity to the species Conocoryphe heberti. The species Conocoryphe gerlinda (Śnajdr, 1982) also exhibits some affinity to this species. Therefore, these findings from the lower stratum of the Jince Formation are sometimes identified as Conocoryphe gerlinda. However, it should be noted that Conocoryphe gerlinda is known from the significantly younger Ellipsocephalus hoffi–Rejkocephalus Zone. Additionally, Conocoryphe gerlinda differs in several characteristics from the taxon presented here. In particular, the granulation in C. gerlinda is much more pronounced. But even Conocoryphe cirina occasionally shows very slight granulation. Hence, it can be assumed that Conocoryphe also exhibits some variation within the species.
Stratigraphically, these findings from the Czech Acadolenus snajdri Zone are closer to the rouayrouxi Zone, from which Conocoryphe heberti was described. However, the rouayrouxi Zone of the “Formation des Schistes de Coulouma” appears to be slightly younger than the Acadolenus snajdri Zone
The trilobite itself is about 52 mm wide. The pygidium is folded under.
