Trilobites from California

Here you find trilobites from California for sale. California is an interesting fossil area that has produced many different species of trilobites from the Cambrian period. Two important trilobite sites in California are the Latham Shale in the Marble Mountains, San Bernardino County, and the Carrara Formation in the Nopah Range, Inyo County. The Latham Shale is a sequence of layers of claystone and limestone deposited in the Lower Cambrian about 520 million years ago. It contains some of the oldest and most primitive trilobites belonging to the order Redlichiida. The most common species include Bristolia bristolensis, Bristolia insolens, Bristolia mohavensis, and Olenellus (Mesonacis) fremonti. The Carrara Formation is a succession of sandstone, shale and dolomite that was formed in the Middle Cambrian about 505 million years ago. It is home to a diverse community of trilobites belonging to the orders Ptychopariida, Agnostida and Corynexochida. Notable species include Albertella longwelli, Olenellus (Paedeumias) terminatus, Bristolia bristolensis, and Peachella brevispina.

Overall, trilobites from the Cambrian of California are not too often offered for sale.
