Fossil sponges are relatively rarely offered for sale. This is despite the fact that the Porifera fossils are widespread both stratigraphically and geographically. After all, the oldest known fossil sponges are around 600 million years old *. This group of animals can therefore be detected in the late Edacarium even before the Cambrian explosion. The Porifera group is still represented today with more than 7500 species worldwide.
